What’s your favorite rose? Even if you are not a connoisseur of roses, you will delight in the rose garden at the Cheboygan County Museum. Planned and nurtured by the Seedums Garden Club, the Rose Garden features a gorgeous array of grandiflora, hybrid teas and floribundas. Although the flowers bloom in June, the grand show is in July when all the varieties are in full bloom. August comes in a close second so be sure to visit throughout the summer.
This brick paved garden lies on the south side of the jail and sheriff’s residence on South Huron Street. Bathed in full sun, the roses grow profusely in their tidily tended beds.

There are delicate, velvety reds, which perfume the air with their ruffled blooms while the large and elegant White Queen hybrids rise on their tall stems. Complimenting the White Queens are the Chrysler Imperials, which resemble the classic, cut red roses.
Across the garden the frosted pink Barbara Bush showy
blossoms contrast with the deep red Intrigues.

The prolific, pink-
among the green leaves.

New flowers such as the Beloved which is a tall, bright red variety make their home among the old favorite Tropicana hybrid tea which sends forth its mostdelicious fragrance from deep peach petals.
The true queen of roses is the Queen Elizabeth, a hybrid tea with huge bunches of large, light pink blooms on stems about 4 feet tall.
A very impressive rose is the new Double Delight with its ruffled
deep pink blooms with yellow fragrant centers.
The Spellcaster casts its spell with velvety crimson outer petals surrounding a
lighter, delicate red center while the Tournament of Roses grandiflora shows its deep pink center bordered by lighter pink petals.
Pictures and words cannot convey the sensory feast that awaits the visitor to this
rose garden. To appreciate the garden, come on a sunny day to smell the delightful
aromas, see the flowers dancing in the breeze and feel the sun on your back. Know
the peace that comes through experiencing our world of flowers in the calmness of
the not-
Some of the roses in the garden are cut by Seedums members to brighten the days and nights of patients, residents, and workers at the area medical facilities and nursing homes. The Seedums club sponsors various flower projects in the public areas of Cheboygan and Historical Society members are grateful for their faithful care of the museum gardens.
